Global European Automotive Company | Europe to Japan

CHALLENGE

A global European automotive company wanted to create a continuous pipeline of

collaboration opportunities in Japan around future mobility and sustainability.

The company already had global acceleration, incubation and investment programs, but

connecting those initiatives with relevant technologies, companies and decision-makers

in Japan required a strong local capability.

The client needed more than occasional introductions or events. It needed an ongoing

way to identify relevant opportunities, engage potential partners and connect the

strongest candidates with the right teams and programs inside the global organization.

The key question was:

How could the client build a long-term capability in Japan that continuously

generates and advances meaningful mobility collaboration opportunities?

OUR SOLUTION

Trusted worked as an extension of the client's innovation team in Japan, continuously

identifying, developing and advancing collaboration opportunities around the company's

technology priorities and global programs.

Rather than focusing only on startups, Trusted engaged a broader network of

technology companies, startups, universities, SMEs, government organizations

and innovation communities that could contribute to the client's future mobility

activities.

Potential partners were engaged directly to understand their technologies, business

objectives and areas where collaboration with the client could create value.

Selected companies were then connected with relevant programs and decision-makers

within the client's organization.

Trusted supported the process from initial engagement through collaboration

development, including:

  • Identifying technologies and potential partners

  • Understanding the needs and objectives of both sides

  • Connecting selected companies with relevant global programs

  • Facilitating discussions between Japan and headquarters

  • Organizing opportunities for companies to present and demonstrate their technologies

  • Building relationships with government and ecosystem organizations

  • Creating ongoing opportunities around mobility and sustainability

This created a continuous connection between the client's global organization and the

Japanese market, allowing new opportunities to be identified and developed throughout

the year.

OUTCOME

The project established a pathway from:

Local Market Access → Opportunity Identification → Partner Development →

Global Collaboration

The client gained:

  • A continuous pipeline of innovation opportunities in Japan

  • Continuous access to new technologies and potential partners

  • A growing pipeline of companies interested in collaboration

  • Direct connections between Japanese companies and global headquarters

  • Stronger engagement with Japan's broader innovation ecosystem

  • An ongoing local capability supporting future mobility and sustainability initiatives

Several companies progressed into direct collaboration discussions with the

client's headquarters, while the ecosystem continued to expand into startups,

universities, SMEs and established companies.

What began as support for innovation activities developed into a ten-year, year-round

engagement, with Trusted continuously supporting the client's opportunity development

and collaboration activities in Japan.
